Saturday had a very different vibe to it! We went to the Nyamirambo Women’s Center where we had a cooking class in the morning. The students seemed to really enjoy this a lot. I thought it was sort of fun, though I don’t love cooking. Our job was basically to do A LOT of veggie chopping, and some adding of spices to different pots. The main lady in charge knew what she was doing and she ran it like a well-oiled machine. She cooked like 8 different things all at once. It was great to see the whole process and kind of amazing also – how much food they can make in such a relatively short amount of time (I guess it took us about 2.5 hours). When we were done cooking, we ate the food along with the women who helped lead the class and some of the other tourists who came by from a different tour they were on (this was built into their tour schedule).
In the afternoon we participated in a basket-weaving class also done by the Nyamirambo Women’s Center. We just made small medallions for a necklace or earrings and not a whole basket because it takes a long time to make something even that small! I think it took me 2 hours to make my small medallion. Definitely gave us a new appreciation for all of the woven goods that we see around and that we have purchased.
(Apparently I have lost all of the basket weaving pics because I can't find any... Sorry)
We had a free afternoon, so Lisa and I just hung out and went to get a bite of dinner and the students had some free time.
Sunday I was sick with a sore throat that we assume was something like strep, so I stayed home all day. But I did actually go and get some antibiotics from the pharmacist which was helpful. Everyone else went to a church service, lunch, and then to get their nails done. Lisa came home after lunch and did her own thing. I was not much company because I slept most of the day. I just felt terrible.
