Time with Matthew and Luc
While I was at Broughton, I stayed with a teacher who volunteered to host me that week. His name is Matthew Tomlin and he’s a French teacher. He and his husband Luc are such wonderful hosts! I had a great time staying with them all week. Plus, their dog Rex, who is really big, is also really sweet and excitable. Matthew cooked us dinner every night and it was like a really good dinner. Every morning he had a loaf of fresh bread as well as French press coffee ready for me to eat and drink. Matthew’s mom lives next door and she made a lemon drizzle cake for me. It was just a lovely few days!
And not to mention that they live on a beautiful farm in the English countryside. It’s exactly what you would expect. On Wednesday while I was there, I walked around by myself just to get a sense of things. There are lots of sheep around as well as a peacock, they have two little horses (maybe Shetland ponies?), as well as a big horse named Bubbles.
One evening, Matthew took me to the town of Chipping, the closest town to where his home is. He showed me around town and we went for a pint at the local pub.
It was just such a lovely place to stay for a week. Not to mention that I didn’t have to pay for a hotel. But the additional wonderful meals and beautiful countryside were amazing. And to top it all off, Matthew likes to laugh as much as I do, and we laughed so much that week! He is a fun-loving and wonderful person. On my last night there he and Luke took me to the inn at Whitewell. It’s a very posh restaurant and hotel where they actually got married in 2015. We had a lovely meal and again chatted and laughed for a long time. It was a great way to end a wonderful week.
And then it was time to leave Lancashire and go on to my next journey.
