I flew from Omaha to Atlanta to Paris to Accra. Larry and Gerise dropped me off at the airport after we had a lovely lunch. All my flights went smoothly and my luggage was fine. I arrived on time Tuesday evening around 5:45pm.
After going through customs, I met my ride, Emmanuel from the international office and he and the driver Patrick and I started our 4 1/2 hour drive from the Accra airport to the University of Cape Coast. I didn’t know where I’d be staying until we got there. Eric, the Music Department Chair, met us at the bungalow that I was going to be staying at. Eric was so nice! It was great to actually meet him in person after we have been talking for over a year. He had brought me a to-go dinner of jollof rice and chicken and a case of water. I was so tired mentally, emotionally, and physically – we arrived on campus at 10:30pm. I sat down to eat my dinner and looked around at my new home and hoped that I would be able to sleep. I read a little after finally being able to wash my face and brush my teeth. I had fitful sleep, but look forward to all that awaits tomorrow. That will hopefully include meeting other folks, running errands, and getting to know the campus and the area. My first impression is that people are very nice here so far. It does remind me of Rwanda in terms of just everyone being out and about all the time. On the drive, we saw lots of markets; they go late into the night. Lots of humanity.
The pics below are at the beginning of my trip and then when I landed in Accra.
